First Birthday Cupcake Recreation!

For Jack’s first birthday a friend of mine sent him the most adorable bib that was a cake with a washcloth that was a “one” candle.

Oct 08 (241)

I LOVED it, but I was pretty sure I could recreate it… So our cousin Lily got one for her first birthday! I took it a step further and made her a matching onesie too!

Happy Birthday Lily!

So many babies, so little time!

Just a few of the creations I’ve given as shower gifts lately!

I made the newest little monkey this onesie to coordinate with Kennison’s Carter’s Big Sister shirt, when Allison couldn’t find a Little Sister one for Cerise.

Speaking of Cerise, little miss cherry girl scored herself my very first onesie dress!

And baby Anna got a nursing cover, sling, and a lil sis shirt of her own!

Minky Bib, Burp Cloth and Onesie

My cousin just had a sweet baby girl named Vallie! I’m always excited by the arrival of girlies in my family so I can make PINK stuff!

DSC06833

I used a minky polka dot remnant I’d been saving for no occasion in particular to make a bib, and monogrammed and lined it with a fun pink cotton.

To round out the gift, I whipped up a matching diaper burp cloth and onesie.

Now, to get my hands on that sweet baby!

Apron

I finally made an apron!

Oh, Baby!

FIVE mommies in our playgroup are expecting their babies during the month of May. For our very full shower, I created a little something for each mommy- a sleeper with each girl baby’s initial and a duckie for the two boy babies- yet unnamed. I tied the sleepers around burp cloths that I made in coordinating fabrics. Simple but fun!

a Mei Tai variation

After my first trip to FL alone with the boys (I’ve now successfully completed three!) I decided to make a more structured carrier for my travels. The sling was great, but I was always afraid Charlie would flip right out while I bent over to install Jack’s carseat, etc. And we love our moby wrap(s), but sometimes they’re not the easiest for the on/off on/off of air travel. SO, here’s my mei tai variation.

DSC06852

It’s basically just a square with angled corners at the top. The outside is a remnant home deco fabric I picked up a long time ago (dry clean only, but ha!) and it’s lined with a soft blue minky with stars. Instead of batting, I just used an old piece of fleece inside. It has loooong top straps made of jersey material for easily wrapping around, and the waist strap is jersey, too. Actually, the straps are made of a moby wrap that I cut up since I have 5 and really, who needs 5 moby wraps!

My very favorite part is the hood I added out of brown minky. It’s come so much in handy! This is definitely more of a winter wrap, with the thick materials, and the hood fits perfectly in that capacity. I also wore it as a backpack carrier not too long ago, and the hood still did a great job of protecting Charlie from the rain and wind!

Here are some great directions for different wearing positions with a mei tai.

I think this is the only picture I have of the wrap in action…

I’m thinking of making another mei tai with thinner fabrics for summer. If anyone is interested, I’ll try to type of a tutorial as I go.

Easy Easter Baskets!

This year for Easter I wanted to make my boys some Easter baskets to last… but I didn’t have much time!

I bought these plain baskets from Jo-Ann fabrics…

DSC06762

traced their names (reversed) onto fusible interfacing, ironed them to the wrong side of some springy fabric and cut them out. Then I ironed them onto the front of the baskets.

Monkey Stitch Monograms

I just linked to a MckLinky on Kelly’s Korner for shops that sell monogrammed baby/kids’ items. Although we’ll do just about any design you could think up here at Monkey Stitch, about 1/3 of all our applique orders are for monograms. I thought I’d put up a post of some of my favorite past monogrammed/name personalized items.

Baby Shower Gifts

Two of our good friends are having babies in March, and last week Allison hosted a shower for them. It was a fun time with about 15 mommies and over 20 kiddos!

Anjanette had previously requested a pocket sling, so I made one for her with binding and a pocket out of this great mosaic-looking flannel that I just love. There were some scraps so I quickly made up a coordinating rag burp cloth. Her little guy Aidan got a sling of his own, too!

I made Sarah’s soon-t0-be baby boy and his big sister Addie coordinating elephant outfits! Who says that just because you have opposite gender littles that they can’t coordinate?!
